FAQ’s About Dog Photo Sessions
Hey there! Today I am going to try and answer some frequently asked questions or concerns about having your dog’s picture taken.
Does my dog need to be well-trained?
No, he does not. It’s nice if your dog will follow commands; however, it is not necessary for the photo session. Your dog can be his or herself! I work in the moment and capture images of your pet just being a pup.
My dog needs to be on a leash. Is that okay for the session?
That’s more than OK! Most public places require a leash, and I often hold sessions at public parks. Leashes can be removed in post-processing. We can do a number of things: use a slip leash, and it will look as if the dog has no collar. Or, use a pretty collar that compliments your dog's look and remove just the leash.
Please, no harnesses unless you want the harness in your photograph, and I do not recommend this.
What if my dog is super energetic?
Take Mr. or Ms. Energy on a walk before the session. We can also do action shots during the session! (I have a long line leash if we need it.) We can do the action stuff last, keeping the “tongue-out” shots down to a minimum.
I’m worried my pup will misbehave during the session.
That’s OK! He /she is a living being. I am used to working with dogs, cats, and horses - we can take our time. We can change things up, take breaks, have a snack, and if needed, we can reschedule.
Do I need to be in the photos?
No, but you may want one or two with you and your pet. We can talk about it and create shots with hands, feet, backs, and puppy kisses. There will be a day that you will want one of these!
The Bottom Line
Don’t let the little worries keep you from celebrating the relationship between you and your best friend! Schedule a session with your pup today!
